Adequately, it is called the Sienese school of painting. Many of the greatest masterpieces produced during that time are preserved and presented in various city establishments. Works by Simone Martini and Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti are to be found in the Pinacoteca and the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo.

The Campo and the Palio Horse Race This Campo square is very famous in Italy. Siena is divided into seventeen wards. The unique architecture of the city plays an important part in the Palio, which is a well known horse race celebrated as an annual festival. This colorful event draws many visitors from Italy and other parts of the world every year. There are two Palio races, one held in July and one in August. The competitors are ten riders, each representing one of the city’s seventeen wards.
